Situated at a crossroads, this remote landmark nestled in the heart of Dartmoor is said to be the resting place of a young woman who died in unfortunate circumstances back in the 18th century. Although no one owns up to placing them there, fresh flowers regularly seem to mysteriously appear at the spot.

For many years strawberries have flourished in the soil around Cheddar. By the 1840s such was the demand for this acclaimed fruit that a new railway branch known as ‘The Strawberry Line’ was built to facilitate the transportation of produce to the London markets.
